Fulham 0 Newcastle 1 – Instant Newcastle United fan / writer reaction

Fulham 0 Newcastle 1 – Saturday 6 April 3pm

Instant fan / writer reaction from some of our regular contributors on The Mag.

Nat Seaton:

‘ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!

Thank you Bruno and the rest of the lads for making my trip to London so so sweet.

Looked a different team in the second half having done well defensively to go in level at half time.

From the stands it looked like Schar’s goal should have stood (I might be wrong!) but we didn’t have to wait long until the brilliant Bruno drilled the ball home. What a celebration.

A good week of well deserved rest and training before we take on Spurs at home, bring it on…’

Jamie Smith:

‘An absolutely appalling first half but much improved in the second to get three points that throws a much better perspective on the week after the relative disappointment of Tuesday night.

Willock’s injury could be set to further deplete us, which beggars belief as a tough game against Spurs needs a bit of reinforcement we can only hope is forthcoming from somewhere.

Brilliant finish from Bruno and thankfully our hex over Fulham continues.’

Simon Ritter:

‘Good teams can win ugly and this scrap was certainly no beauty contest.

We stood firm in the first half despite continually giving away possession. But it’s not our fault Fulham are pretty toothless.

Dubravka kept a clean sheet and Bruno G grew into the game, as did the whole team, after a slow start. What a way to celebrate his 100th game for United.

There had to be a VAR controversy, of course, and again we were on the wrong end of a rubbish decision. The novice referee saw nothing wrong with Burn’s challenge but Jarred Gillett, who lets anything and everything go when he has the whistle, decided to intervene.

And to compound the VAR nonsense, West Ham escaped with a win at Molineux after a Wolves equaliser in stoppage time was disallowed.

Seven points from three games is a positive but we would have had nine if we had taken our chances against Everton. The good news is that we are building momentum for the run-in.

Onward and upward!’

Brian Standen:

‘Tough game where we ground out a much needed result.

Workmanlike performance where possibly only Bruno stood out and a good clean sheet.

Very harsh disallowed goal.’

GToon:

‘Another big win but yet another injury.

We display battling qualities today and dug in.

Maybe even the players can’t wait for this season to end.

We are 8th but if we can put a few wins together we could end this awful season in a reasonable position and get into Europe.

And then we can start spending if that stupid FFP gets fixed.’

Tony Mallabar:

‘Well we should have been 3-0 down after 30mins.

Not to worry, we ground out a hard earned win.

Cracking atmosphere in wor end, especially since our top boy was back on the terraces.’

Billy Miller:

‘Brilliant Bruno marking his 100th appearance with a winning goal.

Seven points from the last nine is a decent return.

We would want nine as we should have beaten Everton but then you could argue we were fortunate to win this one so maybe it’s evened out.

We’re unbeaten in our last three and a point off 6th.

We have the kindest fixtures of the teams battling for 6th place so I think it’s ours to lose but we won’t get there if we play like this every week.

As ever, we hope that our regular in game injury (Willock) isn’t too bad and that others return to training before our next match.’

Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey…:

‘We weathered the early storm and came away with the archetypal smash and grab.

We grew into the game and whilst it wasn’t a classic performance, with a patched up team that again had to place reliance on the likes of Dummet and Ritchie, it’s an invaluable three points in our quest to finish top six. HTL.’

Bazoox:

‘Newcastle were under the cosh early as usual against Fulham at Craven Cottage, but as we’ve seen before, these hosts struggle to convert their chances.

We showed great spirit in pinching a winnng goal so soon after VAR had ruled out Schar’s effort, Bruno with a clinical finish.

We then held out under a bombardment of corners in injury time for a great result.

I felt sorry for Joe Willock after all the months he has worked so hard to get back into the team after serious injury.’
