Spurs fans comments before AND after Newcastle 4 Tottenham 0 – Priceless

Really enjoyed reading these comments from Spurs fans ahead of facing Newcastle United.

Then enjoyed it even more reading the ones AFTER Saturday’s game.

What a performance from Newcastle United.

Spurs fans commenting via their supporters forum TheFightingCock:

PRE-MATCH

‘Newcastle have a rake load of injuries particularly at the back so we need to attack them to best exploit them.’

‘We f…ing owe them for last seasons’ anahilation!!

It can NEVER be that bad again…’

‘They’re not going to sit back and Howe will have them up for this. But we are practically at full strength.’

‘Interesting that defence aside, even with all those injuries, Newcastle can still put out an okay team.

they have a strong squad and players that wil trouble us, but yes, Good chance to get 3 points there.’

‘These will go toe to toe with us, we will score goals, the only question is, can we defend well and will we let them turn Sid James Park into a cauldron.’

‘I had two bets on last weekend and the Geordies f…d me on both, so I hope we muller them for some sweet payback. If Everton can go up there and get a point I think we’re more than capable of taking all 3, Isak is bound to get a goal with how rubbish our defending has been of late.’

‘Beating the stadium as well as the team is the key to Newcastle away…’

‘If they weren’t owned by trillionaires who would wharp football beyond recognition if they had the FFP leeway, I’d feel sorry for them tbh.

Tonali banned, Botman refused an op then ends up out for 9 months because he didn’t have it, etc etc

It’s a bit beyond just bad luck really, it’s almost gross negligence from their players. Who they still have to pay top whack ages to.’

‘From the start of the season this is the game I’ve wanted us to win more than any other. Not only because they beat us heavily, but just the smugness that occured afterwards from the players and fans of a club that’s spent all of recent memory scrapping around relegation.’

‘We should be going there and winning tbh. They’re a distinctly average side.’

‘I haven’t watched much of Newcastle this season, reading this thread makes them world beaters.’

‘Start with the right team, be strong and go there with belief.

Aside from Gordon they ain’t quick, do high line, press well, pass more crisply than yesterday and be clinical when chances present themselves.’

‘Newcastle were pretty poor for most of the Game against W.Ham, got lucky with the pen and took advantage, very average at the back and we should win this one.’

‘We beat them 4-1 in December with starters Vicario, Porro, Cuti, Davies, Udogie, Biss, Sarr, Kulu, Son, Richy, Johnson.

Subs we used included Gil, Skipp and Donley. They started Joelinton, Lascelles, Almiron. We’re so much stronger now and they have so many first choice missing. Ange got tactics spot on for us from the off in December I recall.

Don’t you think we should beat them comfortably?’

‘The travelling fans deserve a proper show after suffering last seasons debacle .

I’m sure they’re going to be rewarded with one.’

‘What exactly is staveleys job there?

The way she slammed steve bruce whos a geordie was a disgrace.

Think we will win 2-1 or 3-2. Eddie howe is declining as a manager there.’

POST-MATCH

‘Still struggling to understand how we can lose 4-0 to a side missing half their squad to injury.’

‘We’ve had some poor days but yesterday stank.

From the slow lethargic play, giving corners away constantly(16 in fact), playing safe passes, players playing in front of Newcastle and not making runs in behind, making the wrong decisions in the final third nearly every time, being weak from every area of the pitch. But the biggest thing was we got outfought and overpowered by every Newcastle player for 95 minutes.

The fact that when things were going wrong as we still play the same way is baffling. We make subs and play the same way. There has to be a tweak or a complete change of formation because Newcastle went man for man on us and were aggressive as f.. and we couldn’t handle it.’

‘Few thoughts from me on the game.

Overall, utter rubbish. To have nearly 3/4 of the possession, do so little with it and yet Newcastle look threatening every time they go forward really was a concern.

First goal, calamity of errors all round. I actually felt sorry for VDV on this one as anyone can slip, but Son and Maddison losing the ball on the edge of their box, Udogie getting muscled by Gordon and most importantly, Romero stepping to Gordon when he really didn’t need to as VDV was right in front of him – the whole thing was a shambles.
Watching it back, I’m not even sure Romero knew Isak was there. Very poor.

The other 2 goals, obvs poor from Porro on the first but VDV has done poorly for both. Nightmare game for him but I won’t single him out as he’s been so good for us all season.

Newcastle’s tactics could have been created by a spurs fan who knows how we struggle; press high and if we do break the press set 2 banks on the edge of your area because we can’t break that down.’

‘It’s hard to pick the bones out of that mess yesterday. It felt comfortable in the ground up until the first goal. The second was another horror show and we completely unravelled from there.’

‘Newcastle beat us with a press and aggressive physicality in the duels.

It had nothing at all to do with a low block and counter.

We’ve been beating those teams generally. Wolves and Fulham aside.

This nonsense about “found out” doesn’t exist in sport.

There are no secret tactics that nobody can recognise and plan against. It’s just about how well you execute the plan. We were rubbish yesterday.’

‘There’s got to be something wrong with our tactics when our attack always have 7 or 8 defenders to beat but our opponents regularly have one on one or two defenders at most to beat?’

‘Gordon just tore us a new one.’

Anthony Gordon Newcastle Goal Spurs

‘Too lightweight -,udogie getting outmuscled by Gordon /,FFS I’d retire in shame if I allowed that to happen to me but it sums up the team – udogie Werner Johnson son kulu sarr and Maddison couldn’t punch their way out of a paper bag – you can have all the skill in the world but no good if you can’t win a challenge – what’s the old adage – you have to win the battle to earn the right to play your football – something we clearly can’t do.’

‘The goals we conceded yesterday were dreadful, literally schoolboy. The 3rd one where Isaak ran from his own half was embarrassing in that period of the game. Set pieces are an absolute shocker too.’

‘The ONLY positive thought that crossed my mind from that game was that at least it was against the barcodes that we crumbled against a press. It was the first game in ages that anyone actually pressed us and we were shook.’

‘Isak was more expensive than our record signing

Pains me to say it but he’s better than any forward we will sign this summer.’

‘The combined fees for Isak + Gordon (who took us apart today) are just a little more than Richie + Brennan Johnson.’

‘Isak looked like different gravy today to the plodders we have up front.’

‘Gordon was a joke in his first season at Newcastle. Fell out with Howe and all sorts.

Isak shows you what you can get if you aren’t scared of big numbers.’

‘Isak seem to find so much space between Romero and VdV as not man marked,

And whos idea was it for Johnson to pick up Burns at corners? Surely either Romero or VdVs job.

Real school boy stuff and dont see it being fixed anytime soon.’

‘As poor as we were against Fulham, this was even more disheartening. Second to everything. Didn’t seem to win any important ball. Miserable defending, even worse up front.

Comparing Richie/ Johnson to Gordon/ Isak shows how little we have got for similar combined fees.’

‘So glad that in the end I opted against going. Would’ve had to get up very early to get a flight, which would’ve cost me a fortune, plus expenses in Geordieland…all that to witness our worst performance of the season and a total lack of guts from the lads. Thanks but no thanks.

I’m not even sure I’m gonna bother to make the remaining games, even at home. Why should I rearrange my work schedule around them matches.’

‘Just got back from an appalling performance, I think it’s all been said but Spursy mostly covers it.

After the first calamitous goal , we were visibly shaken.Ninety seconds later we did exactly the same clown shoe defending and the confidence just drained away.

That’s 4 or 5 mid table teams that have absolutely had our number. Too many players are underperforming and the team looks a shadow of it’s former self.

What Ange does next will tell us a lot about him.

Meanwhile it is still the hope that kills you.’

‘First 2 goals came from VDV slipping over.

A minute before the first goal he had been booked for a non bookable offence after our captain and vice captain put the ref on the spot begging for a booking for a Newcastle defender.

So Spursy.’

‘A foul is a foul. A yellow is a yellow. Schar should’ve been booked. Burns should’ve been booked…twice…and therefore sent off, also giving us a pen and a possible way back in the game. Mads could’ve walked too…clear foul on Gordon then constant moaning.’
